Fall Centerpiece Idea for a Beautiful Table

Are you looking for fall table decor inspiration? Today I’m sharing an easy fall table centerpiece idea for a beautiful table.

Every once in a while something inspires me so much I feel compelled to recreate it. Maybe it’s an outfit, a recipe or, in this case, a fall table centerpiece. After watching Brooke Giannetti create a beautiful fall centerpiece in her Patino Meadow barn, I was inspired to try something similar at Snowberry. I gathered all my fall decor pieces, bought a few new things, and added flowers and branches from Trader Joe’s.

Fall Centerpiece Idea

After being inspired by Brooke’s Giannetti’s fall centerpiece, I pulled down my fall decor storage bins (there are only two) and rummaged through the cupboards for anything that might help me create something similar.

And, I let my fingers do the walking across the interwebs in search of a few new things.

Then I invited Ali Bentz, interior stylist and designer extraordinare, over to help me pull together a centerpiece display that married Brooke’s inspiration table with my home aesthetic. Remember when Ali helped me set a summer patio table a few months ago.

I’m pretty good at coming up with ideas and inspiration, and sourcing fun stuff, but where I stumble is in pulling it all together. I’m getting better and Ali’s taught me a lot. I was very proud when I asked her to give my fall porch decor the once over and she said ‘no notes.’

To prep for Ali’s arrival I cleared and cleaned our small, oval dining table and set it with this woven, neutral table runner. Then I laid out my collection of pumpkins, vases, candles … all the fall stuff.

Ali arrived with an armful of flowers she picked up at Trader Joe’s, including eucalyptus branches, and we got to work.

We started in the center of the table with the tallest pieces, a tall vase filled with TJ flowers and a  terracotta gourd. They’re both in the 12-13″ height range and won’t disrupt the flow of conversation across the table. Next Ali picked my largest wicker pumpkin (similar) and leaned it against the vase. We’re off to a great start.

From there we worked our way out placing medium sized solid wood and terracotta pumpkins, alongside small rattan wrapped vessels and six green glass candleholders with white or ivory pillar candles. I found the candleholders on Amazon, they come in a set of six, with three different shapes/sizes. The set is only $18.99 and they come in a ton of colors.

We filled in empty spaces with small green and white faux pumpkins. And at each end of the table we placed these harvest glass pumpkin shaped vases filled with seeded eucalyptus stems.

We weren’t sure how to fill the small vessels. More flowers felt like overkill. And votive candles also seemed excessive with six pillar candles already on the table. Then I remembered a couple bags of natural dried pumpkin pods from last year I and poured them into each vase.

Et voila, we’re done.

What I love most about my fall centerpiece is that while it’s inspired by Brooke’s table, it’s not an exact copy. It’s unique and beautifully suited for our small-ish dining area. It’s perfect for a fall dinner party and makes a lovely setting for a drinks and apps or buffet-style gathering. If you’re planning to do any fall entertaining be sure to check out my Apple Cider Aperol Spritz recipe, fun for a group and even Thanksgiving gathering.

A couple of things I learned working with Ali …

  • Try to achieve balance, but don’t concern yourself with symmetry
  • Experiment, experiment, experiment … keep moving, adjusting, adding, and subtracting until it feels right to you
  • I like to snap photos as I go. For some reason images offer a different perspective … and can help determine what needs tweaking

Everything I used to create my table ~

For reference, my table is a 48″ round kitchen table with a 16″ leaf creating an oval.

Setting the table ~

We don’t have any fall entertaining on the docket, but when I do set the table using our cabbage dinner plates will be fun. I also love pulling out our little rustic pumpkin plates, the entire collection is on clearance. I bought these wheat napkin rings last fall and I’m excited to use them again.

  1. Beautifully done. You are an inspiration. I seem to be able to do every other occasion, except Autumn ( Canadian Thanksgiving is October 14 this year).
Will search through my garden and the local shops and find treasures, then set up a storage box to save them in after next week! Thank you.

    1. Hi Jenny, October 14th is coming right up. I tend to overthink things which is totally defeating. All you need is a light touch … a little something here or there. And then enjoy your celebration with friends and family. How’s the weather where you are in Canada? xo

  2. I decided to my get home ready inside and out a bit early as I went away for a week and when I returned home I wanted a warm welcome. I never decorate for a specific holiday but rather for a season. I did a very similar design for my dining room table. I have an antique wooden coffee grinder and a wooden recipe box. Both items mean a lot to me as I bought them at an antique auction years ago I was at with my Mom and young daughter. I added a number of other things I already had as well as a battery operated large pillar candle in a tall clear vase. I feel this will take me all the way through to Thanksgiving.

    1. Lyn, that sounds perfect. Having your vintage finds on the table must recall the happy memories of finding them with your mom and daughter. And that’s what it’s all about. Enjoy the season! xo

  3. Hi Juliet,

Everything looks fabulous, between you and Ali you created such a warm and cozy feel. It helps having so many lovely things in your two storage bins.
Your cabbage plates and little pumpkin plates are pretty. It’s a big help that you have good taste in what to purchase.

I dressed our dinning room table for Halloween with things I have. I’m not a big Halloween person, but for some reason I thought put these things out instead of storing. I usually dress the table for fall. I donated most of my Halloween stuff last year. I’m on a march to clean things out. Sometimes it’s too much cleaning out and donating. Like donating an adorable cake container to present a cake you baked for someone’s birthday. Err! Oh well, hopefully it found a good home.

Take care and have a wonderful rest of the week.

    1. Hi Katherine, if feels like cleaning out is an ongoing process and everyone once in a while I second guess what I’ve given away. But you’re on the right track by focusing on someone new giving your love pieces a new life. I do love Halloween and see so many fun decorations all over our neighborhood and social media. Makes me smile. Boo! xoxo

  4. I think I love this, Juliet. Inspires me to use the plethora of decor and loved items in my home in a little different way. Thank you!!

  5. Juliet, I love what you and Allie pulled together. Looks very pretty. The colors and tones are just perfect with your house! I love the napkin rings too. Looks like you need to plan a fall dinner party.
I am still working on my table. Maybe next week I’ll have it done! I just had to throw out a front porch pumpkin from the heat! Maybe I should go with more faux guys.
Thanks for all the great tips! Fun post. Now bring on fall!!

    1. Oh, Kim … that’s too bad about your pumpkins. I think your porch gets more direct sun than mine. The good news is there are still plenty of pumpkins out there looking for a good home. Yes, please, bring on fall. Soon! xo

  6. Like you, I have the ‘stuff’ but struggle to put it together in a pleasing manner. The good thing is everything’s tweakable so one can tweak until the cows come home! Lovely table settings, both indoors and out.

  7. I am still unpacking from my move, but have found my fall assortment of goodies. I need to rummage about due to my now being asked to join our social committee here at this over 55 ( more like over 65) community. We are having a Canadian Thanksgiving Potluck dinner on October 14, and apart from doing a few other things, I said I could come up with a few more small table bouquets. Where are my small vases?
Just a question…the table looks lovely and very creative…
but I wondered if you have a different print , other than the strong blues in the hydrangea painting , that you consider bringing out for fall into winter? In my former home , where I had much more storage space, I had a few favourite paintings on rotation for different times of the year. I’m guessing you have limited storage , Juliet.
Back to unpacking. It has to be systematic since I need to deal with books into 3 low IKEA Billy bookcases, but first the shelves need to be in place. They are behind 12 boxes of books! A logistical challenge. Once books are in the bookcases , that frees up so much more floor space where I can open more ‘fragile ‘ boxes. Perhaps the small vases may appear !
Enjoy the transition into fall. The colours here on Vancouver Island are becoming quite spectacular, with the maples looking especially beautiful.

    1. Hi Cath, your Canadian Thanksgiving is coming right up. What fun to be part of the social committee … you’re going to enjoy that very much. xo

  8. Juliet, I love your tablescape! The textures, sizes of the pumpkins and the candles all look beautiful together.

  9. Love this display, Juliet! The variety of colors and textures is perfect! Even if I am not entertaining, I like to have some kind of centerpiece on the table. Just feels empty with out it! Thank you for the inspiration and sources!
